🎯 Purpose of Islamic Gatherings
The purpose of Islamic gatherings is not limited to recitation of naat or listening to speeches. Rather, their true aim should be to awaken religious awareness in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah, seek guidance from the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and invite people towards righteous action. In today’s time, many such events have become more of a cultural tradition or mere formality.
You should definitely hold gatherings—but they should be purposeful and aligned with the Qur’an and Hadith.
Islam is a complete code of life that guides us in every aspect of our lives. It not only provides spiritual guidance but also offers practical and effective strategies for worldly matters. Therefore, Islam is not just about worship, but it leads us in all areas of life—social, communal, and personal—so we can live correctly.
In today’s world, organizing jalsas (gatherings), milads, and conferences has become a common tradition. However, the question arises: are these traditions fulfilling their religious purpose or just giving us an illusion of piety? This makes us question whether our gatherings are only for worldly show or truly in accordance with Islam and the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah. A close look at modern events reveals that people have forgotten the true purpose— which is to act upon the Qur’an and Hadith, not just to decorate events.

In this article, we discuss what is happening today that deviates from the path set by the Qur’an and Sunnah.
🔖 The True Purpose of Islamic Gatherings
Islamic events should not be confined to naat recitation or speeches, but rather focus on fulfilling meaningful goals. These include:
1. Awakening Religious Awareness
The most important objective is to instill religious awareness in the common person—not just to accept something because someone else said it, but to develop understanding. A person should be able to distinguish between right and wrong within religion.
For example, we see today that some are brainwashed in the name of religion, taught that killing people will earn them Paradise. Islam completely rejects such ideas. In Islam, the unjust killing of one person is like killing all of humanity.
Through such gatherings, people can be educated to understand the true peaceful message of Islam, rather than fall into extremism or misguidance. Most people are unaware of the teachings of their own faith and are easily misled. Therefore, jalsas, milads, and processions can be a tool for public guidance and moral improvement.

2. Highlighting the Life of the Prophet ﷺ
During occasions like Rabi’ al-Awwal, the main focus of a gathering should be to highlight the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and to teach people about his character. His life is the best example for us, as Allah mentions in the Qur’an.
If we reflect on how the Prophet ﷺ lived, how he dealt with difficulties, and how he solved problems the Islamic way, then most of our issues today would be resolved. His life offers guidance for both religious and worldly matters. That’s why it’s essential for our gatherings and milads to include talks about his life—so that people can adopt his ways (Sunnah) in their own lives.
3. Inviting Towards Action
The goal of gatherings should not be just to provide knowledge but also to encourage implementation. In every religious institution where a gathering is held, the speaker should end by giving the audience a task to carry out—like helping the poor or resolving local issues in an Islamic manner.
There should be clear intentions set during gatherings to act on the lessons learned and live according to the teachings of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. Listening alone is not enough—acting on what is learned is the real objective.

🎯 Practical Tips to Make Gatherings Purposeful
✅ 1. Clear Topic Selection
Choosing the right topic is very important. A well-chosen topic will have a stronger impact on people and guide them towards better actions. Topics should be relevant and heart-touching. For example, in Ramadan, discuss how to avoid sins and perform good deeds. Also, subjects like obedience to parents are very important today, as disobedience has become common. Such topics can help bring about real change.
✅ 2. Focus on Youth
While the gathering should address everyone, special attention should be given to the youth. They are the future of the society. Their correction and guidance will naturally influence others. If they begin to regularly pray five times a day, their future generations will be influenced. Teaching them the path of the Prophet ﷺ can bring about great societal transformation.
✅ 3. Separate Seating for Women and Children
Just like the youth, women and children also need proper guidance. They play a crucial role in society. It is essential to teach them the true purpose of Islam and help them understand the religion. Since ignorance is often found among women due to lack of religious education, teaching them will automatically impact the next generation.
And remember:
The goal of jalsas, milads, and religious events is not to harm anyone or seek fame—
The true purpose is to act upon Islam and help others do the same by showing them how the life of the Prophet ﷺ can be a guide for making better life decisions.
We must convey the message in the best and most beautiful way, so people are drawn to the faith and come to understand what Islam truly is.
